San diego sTREET CHOIR
Rodney Girvin
Choir Director
Rodney Girvin is a classical pianist, organist, and private teacher. A San Diego native, he was a student of Ronald Morebello of the Kensington Trio. Upon graduating high school, he accepted a music scholarship to study piano performance at the University of Missouri with Dr. Raymond Herbert.
Mr. Girvin enjoys giving back to the local music community through numerous leadership roles. Most recently, he served the American Guild of Organists, San Diego Chapter as Chapter Life Coordinator (2019-2020) and currently serves as Sub-Dean.
Mr. Girvin serves as Director of Music & Organist at First Presbyterian Church of San Diego. In addition, he is the Director of San Diego Street Choir and Assistant Conductor/Accompanist for Pacific Coast Chorale.
Over the past 17 months, our team of managers kept in contact with many of our singers; it was hard on everyone. We know of two singers who passed away from complications of the virus. In June, Rodney Girvin joined the "blue shirt" team as our next director; Ron has passed the "baton" and now enjoys helping at our rehearsals.
The San Diego Street Choir has been and continues to be a thriving aspect of the Ladle Fellowship ministry. Undoubtedly, we have seen many lives changed by singing together as a group; it is therapeutic, community-building, and spiritually inspiring. For many of our choir members, joining the choir has helped them "come out of their shell" and has given them a supportive community to turn to when difficulties and temptations inevitably arise.
Would you like to get involved with the San Diego Street Choir? We have a couple of ways that you can help:
1. Ask about Volunteer Opportunities - Help with our music folders and assistance during rehearsals.
2. Merchandise - We provide different incentives to our group; please consider helping us buy gift cards.
3. Donate to the choir. We have expenses for concerts, apparel for outings, and special events.
"The choir makes me happy and clears my mind from thinking about life on the street."
"I'm in the choir because I love to sing and I love praise and worship with my Man upstairs."
"When I'm with the choir, I feel like I'm at home."
"Singing with the Street Choir has brought me closer to God and put me
back in touch with my faith."
